Covid-19 has had a profound impact on everyone’s lives. The Great Learning, Mahogany Opera's new participatory commissioning project, will provide an opportunity to share our experiences of the pandemic in a safe, creative space. In this nationwide project, communities will collaborate with a team of artists to create words, music and movements that form a completely new performance piece, inspired by Cornelius Cardew and his original work The Great Learning. Through creativity, sharing our stories and building bonds between communities we can heal and explore what lessons this offers us for a better future.
In our latest Meet Me @ Mahogany event, you can hear more about this exciting new project from the artists involved as we delve into the importance of community led commissioning and interrogate how vital creativity can be in healing the mind, body and soul. Speakers will include Mahogany Opera's Artistic Director and the project director Freddie Wake-Walker, poet and librettist Elspeth Murray, writer and facilitator Emma McGordon and composer and choral conductor Michael Betteridge, expertly chaired by composer and music leader Stephen Deazley.
All Meet Me @ Mahogany events are FREE to attend. The discussion will take place in English on Zoom. It will be BSL-interpreted and live-captioned. Please register on Eventbrite to receive the Zoom link for the event. We hope to see you there.
Meet Me @Mahogany is Mahogany Opera’s virtual Open House series, where we share insights and ideas around what we do and how we do it, connecting people to our creative practice. For more details, or to catch up on previous discussions, visit the Meet Me @ Mahogany overview page.
