Michael Betteridge

Music director

Michael is a composer and choral conductor based in Manchester, UK.

Specializing in working with nonprofessionals singers he has led choral and opera performances across the UK and abroad most often giving new works their premieres, including some of his own. After studying composition at the Royal Northern College of Music he was one of the first recipients of Sing for Pleasure’s Young Conductors Programme in 2013. Since then he has premiered works by Philip Venables, Kerry Andrews, Anna Appleby and Chris Roe, amongst others. In April 2016 he conducted the world premiere of Andrew Keeling’s community opera Get Weavin’ at the Bridgewater Hall in collaboration with Chetham’s School of Music for over 200 performers.

He is artistic director of The Sunday Boys – an open access low voiced LGBTQ+ choir based in the heart of Manchester.
