Mahogany Opera’s new Trustees — Mary Miller, Florence Okoye & Helen Thomas
17/01/23
Fond Farewells and warm welcomes!
In December, Mahogany Opera bid a fond farewell to our longest standing Trustee, David Bernstein, who has helped guide our charity since 2009. David has brought a wealth of experience and support to our board, and although he has now stepped down from the role we look forward to continuing our relationship and shared passion for new opera into the future.
Following David's departure, we are thrilled to announce the appointment of three new Trustees to our board.
Mary Miller has a long history of international arts leadership, primarily in opera. Their work in the community, artist and idea development has been a life-long passion, and as a former concert violinist they have experience of seeing both sides of the platform.
Florence Okoye is a user experience designer, researcher and digital strategist, as well as working as a freelance curator and producer of interdisciplinary, inclusive events that explore community, history and design, passionate about reframing classical art forms for new audiences.
Helen Thomas brings a successful, thirty-year career in the commissioning, promotion and performance of new, musical work in professional, educational and community contexts, with expertise in the areas of communications, arts management and financial management.
You can find out more about our all our Trustees on our Team & Trustees page.
Mahogany Opera is committed to collaborative and inclusive ways of working. We know opera can be, and is widely perceived as, a form of culture that upholds systemic injustices rather than challenging them. It does not have to be that way. We endeavour to create work that is open and welcoming to everyone who wants to participate. If you are interested in hearing more about our work and how to get involved please contact bridget@mahoganyopera.co.uk - we'd love to hear from you.
