£59,720 grant to support the Snappy Operas Festival 2026
Mahogany Opera has been awarded a £59,720 National Lottery Project Grant by Arts Council England, to support our latest Snappy Operas Festival. The Snappy Operas Festival 2026 will be our most inclusive yet, engaging over 950 children and 90 teachers & support staff from mainstream and specialist schools across West Cumbria, the North East, Hull and North East Lincolnshire in a celebration of opera, through live performances, immersive projects, and a new DIY Snappy Opera model that empowers schools to lead their own creative journeys.

Mahogany Opera's Executive Director, Bridget Rennie said:
"We've been working hard to bring the joy of Snappy Operas to more children like this one, but it's well known how difficult the arts funding landscape is at the moment, especially for organisations like us who aren't regularly funded. The success rate for Arts Council project grants is currently less than 30%, so we were elated to secure a major project grant last month which brings us to 70% of our target for the Snappy Opera Festival. We'll be fundraising through the Big Give Christmas Challenge to help meet the rest of our target, so look out for news on this and our plans for the festival over the autumn."
