In October 2022, Mahogany Opera embarked on a 10 month residency at Sandgate School in Kendal, creating a brand new Snappy Opera with and for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Roll Up! brought together the entire school community for this creative endeavour, which proved valuable and rewarding for all of the pupils and teachers involved – but what did the creative team learn from the process of working in this way?

In our latest Meet Me @ Mahogany event, we will explore what artists and creative organisations can learn from working in a SEND setting. Why is exploring the fundamentals of play so important? What happens when we treat everyone in a space as an artist? And how can these things strengthen our approach to collaborative devising in other settings and our wider work?

Speakers will include Claire Eliza Willoughby and Jack McNeill, who both helped to create Roll Up!, as well as composer, musician & animateur Shiori Usui and composer, cellist and performance artist Greg Sinclair.
