Theo Merz

Librettist

Theo Merz is a British journalist based in Moscow. He has reported from across Russia and the region for outlets including Agence France-Presse, The Economist, The Guardian, The Telegraph, The Times, and VICE. He was previously a journalist in London and Hong Kong, and has also worked as a translator and book editor.

Theo wrote the libretto for Laurence Osborn's opera The Mother, which was produced by Mahogany Opera Group and performed at the POSK theatre, London, in 2018. He and Osborn earlier collaborated on three short operas, all produced by Tête à Tête: April in the Amazon (Platform Theatre, 2014), Earthly Desires (Riverside Studios, 2012), and Una Tragedia di Proporzione Titaniche (Britten Theatre, 2012).
