Katie is a director with a focus on contemporary, music-driven work. She’s probably what you’d call an actor’s director: she makes precise, detailed work with performers that invites audiences to adjust their relationship to the world. She has a background in classical text which informs her work, as well as considerable experience in community engagement and working with young people. Since graduating from the MA in Directing at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2019, she has directed experimental, devised shows and assisted on multiple operas.
In 2021, Katie started a music-theatre company, demo theatre collective, with an ambition to bring the power of music and drama to a wide variety of audiences in unexpected ways. Through demo, she has been trialling ways she can integrate creative access into her work. And when she’s not making theatre, Katie is an artistic roller skater (which is just as cool as it sounds!) and teaches children how to skate at a roller disco in Glasgow.
