Nicola Wydenbach

Music director

Nicola Wydenbach is a graduate of the RCM where she was supported by a scholarship from Diva Opera. She has sung for English National Opera, Scottish Opera, the Monteverdi Choir, Philharmonia Voices and London Voices.

She is a highly experienced vocal coach having worked for ROH, ENO, the BBC, Surrey Arts, Sing Up, Snape Maltings, Streetwise Opera and Garsington. She has been Musical Director for Snappy Operas, Mahogany Opera in Tower Hamlets, Cumbria and Lewes.

Nicola is also a specialist in working with people with Parkinson’s and mental health conditions. She is Director of training for Sing to Beat Parkinson’s (www.singtobeat.co.uk). Her book Singing for Parkinson's was published in 2019. (www.comptonpublishing.co.uk/singing-for-people-with-parkinsons.php). She is currently co-creating an opera for people with Parkinson’s online to be premiered in the future. (www.carvecolab.com)

She is MD of the Mind and Soul Community Choir (www. mindandsoulchoir.org) for all those affected by mental illness She produced and conducted Camberwell Gro(o)ve for World Mental Health Day 2019 including a commissioned cantata about calmness.

In 2019, Nicola was awarded a Trinity Laban Learning & Participation (Music) Fellowship for individual music leaders working in participatory music settings. The same year Nicola was awarded a Developing your Creative Practice Grant to explore keeping art in the Arts and Health Movement and this has resulted in a further ACE looking at technological solutions for people with Parkinson’s.
