Lisa J Coates is a singer, animateur and director working for companies such as Artis Education, Rock Choir and Timeline Songs, as well as teaching privately and in schools. She has performed in China, Canada, USA, and throughout Europe and the UK, recorded for labels such as Naxos, Delphian, Boreas and Touch, and appeared on radio and television. Lisa has a broad repertoire singing everything from medieval to premiering new works, with a focus on opera and contemporary music. This includes premieres of works by Stephen McNeff, Gavin Bryars Stef Conner, and Roger Marsh. Performance credits include Flora, La Traviata; Mercedes Carmen, Lola Cavalleria Rusticana, and Public Opinion L’Orfeé aux Enfers. Directing credits include Dido and Aeneas (Purcell); the premiere of Tell One, Forget One (Kevin Jones) for the Tête-à-Tête Opera Festival, which she also produced and performed, and scenes from Amahl and the Night Visitors (Menotti), and Cosí fan tutte (Mozart).
Lisa graduated with a distinction from the PG Artist Diploma from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, kindly supported by the Linda Pilgrim Charitable Trust and the Morag Noble scholarships.
When not making music, Lisa is a keen photographer and writes poetry.
