Cevanne writes music, builds sound-sculptures, and co-creates filmed performances. Described by BBC Music Magazine as “wide-ranging, dynamic and utterly unique”, her work tells stories with “a rare sense of place” (Caroline Potter, I Care If You Listen). She has been composer-in-residence with the London Symphony Orchestra and National Trust at 575 Wandsworth Road, as well as with Mahler & LeWitt Studios, and the Handel & Hendrix Museum. Cevanne’s music has appeared at the BBC Proms, Royal Opera House Linbury Theatre, and Royal Festival Hall, as well as in pubs, clubs, and fields.
She won a British Composer Award for ‘Muted Lines’, commissioned by saxophonist Trish Clowes for jazz ensemble and sinfonia. Her Ivor Novello Award nominated collaboration for Coventry City of Culture and Random String produced ‘Rites For Crossing Water’: an outdoor projected animation by Jessica Glover, augmented reality book, and EP of ‘found sound’ folksongs which she and Crewdson performed with voice, harp and electronics.
In her doctoral research at the Royal College of Art, Cevanne is working with one of humanity’s oldest instruments — the shell trumpet — to convey the erosion of her native Suffolk coast and its nuclear legacy. She has been a lecturer at the Royal Academy of Music in London, and a Visiting Fellow at Girton College, University of Cambridge. Her research is supported by the Armenian General Benevolent Union performing arts scholarship.
